Where to Stay in Bohol: Choose by Location
The first question every traveler faces is which part of Bohol fits their trip. Each area has a completely different feel — from the lively beach-resort energy of Alona Beach to the misty, off-grid quiet of the eastern coast. Here is a breakdown of the main areas, with links to dedicated hotel guides for each one.
Panglao Island & Alona Beach
Panglao Island is where most visitors base themselves. Connected to mainland Bohol by two bridges, this 91.12 km² island holds some of the finest white-sand beaches in Central Visayas. Alona Beach — a 1.5 km stretch of sand on the island’s southwest tip — is the most-visited spot, lined with dive shops, island-hopping banca (outrigger boat) departures, beach bars, and a mix of accommodation from backpacker hostels to beachfront boutique resorts. Read our full Alona Beach guide before you book.
If you want convenience, easy access to tours, and the full Bohol beach experience, Panglao is the obvious base. Hotels here fill up fast during peak season (December–April), especially around Holy Week. Book at least 2–3 months ahead for any stay in January to April, and 3–6 months out for Holy Week.

Tagbilaran City
Most Bohol visitors arrive by fast ferry at ICM Port in Tagbilaran and travel straight through to Panglao without spending a night in the city. That is understandable, but Tagbilaran has more going for it than people give it credit for. Business hotels, serviced apartments, and affordable guesthouses cluster around the port, the city market, and the heritage district. You can walk to Tagbilaran Cathedral, the Blood Compact Shrine, and the Bohol National Museum without getting on a vehicle.
Staying in Tagbilaran makes sense if you have an early ferry to catch, a full-day countryside tour planned from a central base, or if you are traveling for business. Rooms are generally cheaper here than on Panglao, and the drive to Alona Beach takes about 30–45 minutes by shuttle or tricycle. Anda & Eastern Bohol
If you want a side of Bohol that still feels like a secret — where the beaches are quiet, the water is clear, and you might have a whole cove entirely to yourself — head east to Anda. About 2.5 hours from Tagbilaran by road, Anda sits on the island’s eastern coast, well beyond the tour bus routes and day-trip crowds.
Anda is the favorite area for repeat Bohol visitors and anyone who wants to disconnect completely. Resorts here tend to be small, locally-owned, and built right on the beach. Cave pools, pristine coral gardens, and early-morning paddleboard sessions come standard. The trade-off is distance and fewer dining options — but that is exactly the point for the travelers who come here. See the complete Anda Bohol destination guide for the full picture.

Loboc River, Chocolate Hills Country & the Interior
Not all of Bohol is beach. The island’s interior — where the Loboc River winds through mahogany forest and the famous Chocolate Hills rise over 50 km² of Carmen, Batuan, and Sagbayan — has its own deeply atmospheric accommodation scene.
A river lodge in Loboc puts you minutes from sunrise kayaking and the famous floating restaurant cruise. A resort near the Chocolate Hills viewpoint lets you watch morning mist roll over 1,268 limestone mounds before the day-trippers arrive. If you are also planning a Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary visit in Corella, staying in this zone cuts your driving time significantly — and gives you the countryside morning quiet that the Panglao side simply cannot offer. Romantic & Honeymoon Stays
Bohol is one of the Philippines’ most consistent honeymoon destinations. Private beach access, candlelit dinners with sea views, sunset banca rides, and couples’ spa treatments are all easily arranged from the island’s romantic resorts. Whether you want a secluded beach cottage with its own garden, a hilltop villa with 180-degree views, or a full-service resort with a dedicated honeymoon package, Bohol has it at every price point.
Family-Friendly Resorts
Bohol works exceptionally well for families. The calm, shallow waters on Panglao’s leeward beaches are safe for children, many resorts have dedicated kids’ pools, and the island’s must-see attractions — tarsier watching, the Chocolate Hills, the Loboc River Cruise, and evening firefly tours — are all genuinely child-friendly and easy to arrange. Look for resorts with beachfront access, in-house dining, and a tour desk to keep logistics manageable across multiple days. You can also browse all Bohol tours to plan activities alongside your stay.
Eco Resorts, Farm Stays & Unique Accommodations
Bohol’s conservation heritage goes deeper than most Philippine destinations, and that is reflected in its eco-resort scene. Farm stays in the Bohol interior, off-grid bungalows in Anda, and floating river cottages in Loboc offer an experience a long way from the standard beach resort. If waking up surrounded by fireflies, foraging your breakfast from a hillside garden, or sleeping to the sound of the Loboc River suits you better than a pool bar — this category is yours.
“The farm stay we booked through this site was unlike anything we expected — meals cooked from the garden, fireflies drifting past the porch at night, and real silence. It felt like a completely different Bohol.”
— Ana K., Toronto ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What to Know Before You Book a Bohol Hotel
Timing your booking
The dry season (amihan) runs from December through April. This is peak travel season in Bohol, and hotels — especially on Panglao and Alona Beach — fill up fast. Holy Week, which falls in March or April, is the single busiest period on the island. Book 3–6 months ahead for any Holy Week stay. February (Valentine’s) and New Year are also high-demand weekends.
The wet season (habagat) runs June through October. Afternoon rain showers are common, but mornings are usually clear, most tours and boat trips still operate, and the island is noticeably quieter. Hotel rates drop 30–50% from peak-season prices, and you get a far more local experience. October and November are the sweet spot — weather improving, rates still low, crowds not yet arrived. For detailed seasonal tips and other practical planning information, see our all Bohol travel essentials hub.
Getting to your hotel
If you are arriving by fast ferry from Cebu City, you will dock at Integrated Cargo & Passenger Port (ICM Port) in Tagbilaran. The ferry crossing covers approximately 72 km and takes about 2 hours. From ICM Port to Panglao Island and Alona Beach, travel time is 30–45 minutes by tricycle or shuttle van. Most hotels can arrange a port pickup if you contact them in advance.
If you are flying into Panglao International Airport (TAG), the airport sits on the northern tip of Panglao Island. Most beachfront resorts are 15–30 minutes south from there by tricycle or van. Some hotels near the airport are a good choice if you land late or depart early. For full ferry and transport planning, read how to get to Bohol by ferry.
Before you arrive
- Standard check-in is 2:00 PM; checkout is 12:00 noon at most properties
- Smaller guesthouses may not have 24-hour reception — confirm arrival time if you are on a late ferry
- Breakfast is often included at mid-range and above — always confirm before booking
- Air-conditioning may cost extra at budget guesthouses — clarify at booking
- Rates at smaller family-run properties are sometimes lower when booked directly by phone or email
- Pack reef-safe sunscreen for beach and water activities — standard sunscreen harms Bohol’s coral reefs
Conclusion
Bohol hotels cover every corner of what a good stay in the Philippines can be — beach resort mornings in Panglao, quiet riverside nights in Loboc, the productive buzz of Tagbilaran City, and the peaceful isolation of Anda’s eastern coast.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best area to stay in Bohol?
Panglao Island and Alona Beach are the most popular base for first-time visitors — white sand, dive shops, and tour boats are all within walking distance. If you want quiet beaches and fewer tourists, Anda on the eastern coast is the best-kept secret on the island, about 2.5 hours from Tagbilaran. For a different side of Bohol entirely, staying near Loboc or the Chocolate Hills puts you deep in the countryside with misty mornings and almost no crowds.
How far is Panglao from Tagbilaran ferry port?
ICM Port in Tagbilaran City is approximately 30–45 minutes by shuttle van or tricycle from Alona Beach on Panglao Island. Most hotels can arrange a port pickup if you contact them in advance and let them know your ferry arrival time.
When should I book a Bohol hotel?
For peak season travel (December–April), book at least 2–3 months in advance. For Holy Week travel (March or April), book 3–6 months ahead — Panglao and Alona Beach sell out completely. For the wet season (June–October), availability is easier and last-minute booking is usually possible, though planning ahead is still worth it.
How much do Bohol hotels cost?
Budget guesthouses and hostels on Alona Beach start from approximately ₱600–₱1,200 per night. Mid-range beachfront resorts run approximately ₱3,000–₱8,000 per night. Luxury resorts with private pools or villa accommodation start from approximately ₱8,000 upward. Prices are highest from December to April and lowest from June to September.
Do Bohol hotels include breakfast?
Many mid-range and higher-end resorts include breakfast, especially on Panglao Island. Budget guesthouses usually offer it as an optional add-on or do not include it at all. Filipino breakfast — sinangag (garlic fried rice), eggs, and meat — is the standard morning meal at local properties. Always confirm at booking whether breakfast is included.
Is Anda worth choosing over Panglao?
Yes, especially for repeat visitors or anyone who wants a genuinely quiet experience. Anda has clear water, uncrowded beaches, and a slower pace that Panglao simply cannot replicate anymore. The trade-off is distance — about 2.5 hours from Tagbilaran by road — and fewer dining and nightlife options. If you have 4 or more nights in Bohol, spending 2 nights in Anda alongside a Panglao base is an excellent combination.
Are there hotels near the Chocolate Hills?
Yes. Several resorts and lodges are located near the Chocolate Hills viewpoint in Carmen and within easy reach of the tarsier sanctuary in Corella. Staying in this area lets you visit both before the day-tour crowds arrive, at a slower pace and with much better morning light for photos. See our dedicated guide on hotels near the Chocolate Hills for full recommendations.
What about hotels near Panglao International Airport?
Panglao International Airport (TAG) sits on the northern tip of Panglao Island, roughly 15–30 minutes from most beachfront hotels by tricycle or van. If you have an early morning flight or a late-night arrival, an airport-area hotel removes the hassle of driving across the island in the dark. Our airport hotel guide covers the best options close to the terminal.
Can I book Bohol hotels at the last minute?
During the wet season (June–October), last-minute booking works for most properties. During peak season — and especially Holy Week — it is risky. Panglao and Alona Beach hotels can be fully booked weeks or months in advance during those periods. Book as early as you can; Bohol is worth planning for.
Is Tagbilaran a good base for exploring Bohol?
For countryside touring, Tagbilaran is actually more central than Panglao — the Chocolate Hills, Loboc River, and tarsier sanctuary are all closer from the city. For business travelers or those catching early ferries, it is the obvious choice. It is not a beach destination, but it has good local restaurants, a lively public market, and Tagbilaran Cathedral and the Blood Compact Shrine within easy reach.
